Decidedly Dry: a newsletter from Jess Steitzer
Welcome to Decidedly Dry. This is my lovely, little space where I have the opportunity to write about anything that interests me, share updates, and hopefully connect in a more intimate way with the wonderful people (like you!) in my community.
Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours creating inspiring content over in social media land, my blog, newsletters and more. Unfortunately, creators like me, pour their heart and soul into their craft, only to cross their fingers and toes that it’ll actually reach people. This is typically dependent on how relevant it is to that platform.
So when a good friend of mine mentioned this so-called, magical place called Substack, a place where I could actually upload my podcast episodes, create newsletters, and write… well, just to write?! It was a no-brainer move for me.
What can you expect from me? Mostly I talk about sobriety, motherhood, homeschooling, and my ever-growing God curious journey. Also: books, and a decent amount of my love/hate relationship with running.
A Little Bit About Me
I'm Jess. Mom of two active, adventurous and loving boys. Happily married. A homeschooling newbie. Lover of coffee, secluded hikes, and country music. I live in a present-day "mommy-wine-culture"... smack dab in wine country and I'm doing it sober.
For years I felt like I was living two different lives. By day, I was the fitness enthusiast, protein shake drinking Mom who inspired her clients to live their very best lives. But once the clock hit 5 o'clock, the cork was popped, the glass was full and Mom was checking out. This constant back and forth between fit Mom and wine Mom became utterly exhausting. The conversation I was having in my head became repetitive and I found myself questioning my relationship with alcohol more and more. But were there people out there who actually didn't drink? Were there moms who seriously didn't reward themselves with a glass of wine (or two, or three...) at the end of the day? Turns out there were a lot of them.
So I decided to break up with my old friend wine, began educating myself about this so-called sober movement, wrapped myself in a blanket of supportive, inspiring like-minded women, and jumped in with both feet.
My journey hasn't been perfect, far from it, but I've learned from every challenge and have come out stronger than before. I know I can bring a lot to the table on this ever-growing sober movement... and it sure as heck isn’t a glass of wine.
This weekly newsletter and podcast is a free offering from my Substack newsletter, Decidedly Dry. There’s an option for you to purchase a subscription, which basically means you’re interested in supporting me and my work with your dollars. A paid subscription also means you’ll have access to different features beyond my weekly newsletter. Features *might* include: additional writings, bonus podcast episodes, resources, journal and doodle prompts, workout routines, etc. I’m not 100% sure yet and that’s what makes this kind of exciting. It allows me to experiment as I go and figure out how to build (what I hope to be) a long lasting, supportive, entertaining resource for you. Again, I’m just happy you’re here.
